There’s plenty to recommend this part of the British Isles if you’re planning a special break. For starters it is home to the lovelorn, fictional heroine Lorna Doone, who was shot on her wedding day by a spurned admirer, and it provided the inspiration for the romantic poet Coleridge. ‘Lorna Doone: A Romance of Exmoor’ by English author Richard Doddridge Blackmore was first published in 1869, so it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019.
Plus, Exmoor is one of the few places in the country where you can really see the ‘stars shining bright above you’ due to very little light pollution.
You can cuddle up in front of a log burning stove, sleep in a four-poster bed, dine by candlelight, star gaze, walk hand-in-hand on a sandy beach, take a trip on a steam train and even fly your loved one to the moon with a trip to the lunar landscape of the Valley of Rocks. It’s all here!
But it’s not just the landscape and seascape that’s dreamy, we offer a bit of foodie heaven too with award-winning seasonal dishes made with love.
