We purchased the property in March 2012 and started immediately on bringing the business into the 21st century, moving through the public rooms to the eight bedrooms and bathrooms, updating both the décor and furnishings, while retaining the character and its period features.
The once public bar was refurbished and re-launched in March 2014 as Our Coleridge Restaurant, offering modern English and international dishes, Wednesday to Saturday evening and brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is open to both non-residents and residents.
With John heading up the kitchen, our restaurant offers relaxed yet sophisticated dining with a seasonally changing, à la carte menu and a focus on locally-sourced produce.
To complement our food offer, we have a comprehensive wine cellar, along with local real ales, ciders and spirits.
Our wine list is supplied by Berry Bros. & Rudd, one of the oldest and finest wine merchants in the country, and complements our food ethos. We think we’re the only establishment in the area to have such an exclusive wine selection available to diners and this is really where my expertise comes in.
It’s taken years of training and experience in the industry to have been able to gain the knowledge I have and I regularly attend supplier events to keep up with current trends and to taste new wines and vintages.
Guests who dine with us receive one-to-one advice and assistance with their wine selection. Lots of people quiz me about other wine related matters and go home with lots of hints and tips for their own wine cellars and collections too. In the area I’m getting a bit of a reputation as being the ‘wine lady’ – I’m not sure if that’s good or bad!
Our wine and spirit listing continues to grow, including more offerings from local producers, as we strive to provide a greater choice for guests.
