Dunkery Beacon Country House to the top of Dunkery Beacon

Dunkery Beacon House HotelIf you come to us for a break you can see quite a bit of the scenery and leave your car behind.

Map – Ordnance Survey map OL9

Approx. distance – 6 miles/2¾ – 3 hours walking time

From the hotel entrance turn left down to the road junction. Almost straight opposite is a sign posted gate through a field. Go through the gate and follow the path across several fields.

Follow the path passing north of Ford, through a small wooded area shown on the map, then follow the Macmillan Way West path all the way up Dunkery Hill until you cross the yellow road near a car park.

Carry on across the road and up to the top of Dunkery Beacon which is marked by a cairn. This is approx 519m above sea level and if it’s a clear day you can easily see the Welsh coast and possibly the Brecon Beacons beyond.

There’s a plaque with details of the view down behind the Beacon for a better idea of what can be seen. Also keep your eyes open for Red Deer.

If you wish to return to the hotel from here use the short cut and take one of the paths heading NE from the Beacon, and then parallel to the yellow road going North until you get to the Dunster Path via Webber’s Post. Take the Dunster Path back to the hotel heading East.
